EDIT: I've got enough early reviewers, thanks!
I'm 50,000 words in, but I suspect I'll need to cut/re-write about half of them in addition to writing another 20k or 30k to get the core stuff complete. Whoever signs up for this, you're signing up for going through some very rough stuff.
Why do it? You'll get max-honest writing (I tend to remove things that could be misconstrued or arguments that the emotional impact would outstrip the benefits to thinking for final versions; you'd get to see the raw stuff), you'll be able to shape a work that thousands of people are going to read, and we'll be in touch to swap ideas/thoughts.
I don't need any proofreading or grammar yet -- the questions are very high level / structural / what's clear and what isn't / what's persuasive and what isn't. So it's not painstaking editing so much as noting when things are clear and when they're not.

Also, if you ever played Nethack, Tales of Maj'eyal, or similarly difficult game in the roguelike genre, definitely email me.
In the meantime, if you haven't read Gateless yet -- go get it. Keep getting the most amazing reviews via email and on Amazon. I'm very proud of what we were able to do with it, and it seems people are greatly enjoying it.
In response to, "Things are on fire? Hmm. Well, then," one of the guys I work with emailed me and offered to take things off my plate for me and pick up the slack.
I really appreciated it. He's a fantastic dude. But I wanted to explain that no, it's cool, the stuff I'm cutting is what's worth cutting, and what's left I have plenty of time for. Here's my reply to him -
Graciously appreciated and you're welcome to contribute, but I consider this project the "fueling up the airplanes" and "recruiting a corps of engineers" time - it's where I want to be spending time.
I've blown off a lot of bullshit. The hot water is off in my building, I haven't showered for a couple days, and it's gross. Oh well, I'll cold shower in a moment (I just exercised). My email hasn't been answered. Little bullshit isn't getting done...
There's been a lot of chatter on the comments recently about me not following through, most of it deserved. Throughout my life one of my struggles has been to focus on one thing and follow it through. I used to be totally incapable of it, but over the years have gotten better. There are a lot of things that I have followed through with (my diet, writing this blog, etc.) as well as plenty that I haven't.
Once in a while I feel, for whatever reason, that I've conquered it, and I announce it to the world. While I'm on the topic of admitting faults, another is that I tend to prematurely announce things sometimes. As a reader, you already know that.
I understand your frustration when you read about something I say I'm going to do, get excited about seeing it happen, and then it falls off the radar. If it's any consolation, I'm acutely aware of these things and am similarly frustrated.
